Assunta de Rossi and Jules Ledesma : First baby made in Europe?
Almost four years into the marriage and still, ehem, no baby? What could be the matter? What, rather who, is wrong?
"Nothing’s wrong, nobody’s wrong," Jules Ledesma texted Funfare from Europe where he and wife Assunta de Rossi (whom Jules fondly calls Sam) are on, as he called it, "a Roman holiday/honeymoon," their second trip abroad since they got married in March 2002 (the first was a "quickie" honeymoon in New York after their wedding at the Ledesmas’ hacienda in Negros).
"The good news is that we’re working hard on the baby," added the irrepressible former congressman. "Malamig ngunit maganda – I mean, ang lugar, hindi ang misis ko. Sam will always be HOT to me even when she’s 55 and I’m 78. She’s forever young in my eyes."
With undisguised glee, Jules (who’s a few inches shorter than Assunta, a pairing reminiscent of Tom Cruise and his former wife Nicole Kidman who, after their divorce, happily announced, "Now I can wear heels!") said, "Sam should be infanticipating when we get back home. I think she’s starting to have morning sickness."
If and when, it will be Jules’ third child. He has two with his late wife (yes, the ones reported "kidnapped" two years ago).
Jules sent the text message the other day when he and Assunta were in Rome. They should be in Sorrento ("On the Amalfi Coast," he emphasized) by now and then they’ll proceed to Lecce to pay Assunta’s folks a week-long visit. Lecce is the small Italian town where Assunta and sister Alessandra spent most of their peripatetic childhood. The sisters have just built a house there.
"I’m okay now with Sam’s mom," said Jules. "Matagal na kaming bati."
The European swing was long in planning, often postponed because, according to Jules, he had to attend to "important money matters" involving the Ledesmas.
"Duty first to family, clan and the corporation before pleasure," he said.
In a follow-up text message, Jules pointed out that the dire predictions didn’t come true.
"After our wedding," he recalled, "cynics were saying that we wouldn’t last a year. Look, we’re into our fourth year of blissful togetherness and we hope to spend many more years together, hopefully with a few little ones."
That is, starting with their "made in Europe" baby...knock on wood!
